BINDAKOTE® is easy to print on when following these simple hints. It is recommended to pre-test all printing procedures prior to press time to ensure the desired results are achieved.
Inks:
Cast Coated Colors: We recommend the use of quick-dry inks that dry by oxidation. These inks must be 100% VOC free. The surface of BINDAKOTE C/IS Colors has been sealed with a clear overprint varnish and therefore has a totally non-absorbent surface.
Cast Coated White: We recommend using low solvent (0-5%), oil-based inks. Ask your ink manufacturer about BINDAKOTE Cast Coated White specifically. Do NOT use quick set inks. BINDAKOTE Cast Coated White may require extra drying time.
Samples for ink tests can be obtained by contacting your paper distributor or CTI Paper USA.
Handling: Keep BINDAKOTE wrapped until the moment of printing. It is essential to let the paper acclimatize, for a minimum of 24 hours — longer during cold weather — in the press room while still wrapped in mill packaging. Keep BINDAKOTE covered during drying, between passes and prior to any finishing work. Pressroom conditions should be as close as possible to 68 degrees, and 45-60% relative humidity. If the bindery has a different climate than the pressroom, allow the paper to acclimatize to those conditions.
C/2S Cast Coated White: Because of the highly smooth surfaces of C/2S, blocking may occur. Blocking can be easily corrected by bending each lift, unlocking the edges with hand pressure to completely free each sheet from blocking before using automatic feeders.
Reverse: BINDAKOTE C/IS Cast Coated White and Cast Coated Colors have an uncoated backside, recommended for line art and halftones. Printing solids and heavy coverage on the reverse could require more than one pass of the press and should be pre-tested to ensure that the desired results are achieved. Use low solvent (0-5%), oil-based inks.
Delivery: Jogger pressure should be set to a minimum. Lifts set at 3 to 5 inches will provide optimum results.
Varnishes: Low solvent (0-5%) varnish is optional as a surface protector, but is not required to enhance the high gloss quality of BINDAKOTE. Pre-test for compatibility.
Fountain Solutions: Run water at an absolute minimum with a pH of 4.5 - 5.2; BINDAKOTE has a surface pH of 5.5.
Cast Coated Colors: Solid or multiple color bars can be used to assist in removing water and aid in set time, particularly when printing within minimal coverage on BINDAKOTE C/IS Colors.
Cutting: Use extreme care when cutting BINDAKOTE. Use a sharp knife with minimum clamp pressure. To achieve a clean edge, back trimming is essential. Wipe the newly cut edge with a clean, soft, glycerin-saturated cloth.
Folding and Scoring: To properly score BINDAKOTE, use a rounded channel score. It is recommended to use a minimum width of 2.5 times the caliper of the sheet to be scored, plus 8/I 000’.Always fold, score and bind with the grain direction and pre-test any procedures prior to production.
Foil Stamping and Embossing:
Cast Coated White: BINDAKOTE Cast Coated White is among the easiest of papers to foil stamp. Pre-testing is always recommended. When embossing, use of an embossing film is recommended.
Cast Coated Colors: BINDAKOTE Cast Coated Colors have a clear overprint varnish that can adhere to embossing dies. It is recommended to use embossing film between the die and front of the paper to improve release. Choice of foils is important, as some will work much better than others. Large foil areas are more challenging than small areas. Always pre-test to find the ideal foil, temperature and pressure for the job.

Protect Your Masterpeice
Gloss Coatings are effective and reliable when trying to preserve the original print on Bind-A-Kote Cast Coated Papers and can also degrade when exposed to light. Fast-drying, water-based, AQ provides gloss or dull finish and scuff-resistance characteristics while eliminating drying times allowing for faster set up time.
The quality of the images, the color and sharpness are very much enhanced by using this technique.
In-line AQ is applied then your order can be handled immediately, conventional ink curing times are not an issue. Aqueous Coatings for fine lithography can degrade when exposed to light, over time but still far outlast conventional exposed paper surfaces.
Protective coatings are an investment in the longevity of the printed peice
